Property Overview

Smycorp coordinated the acquisition and syndication of the historic flat iron building at 49 Wellington Street, March 2024. The Flatiron better know as the Gooderham Building lies just east of the financial core. The 6 storey building was originally constructed in 1892 for George Gooderham Sr. and served as the head office for Gooderham & Worts for over 50 years.

Located in the St. Lawrence Market District, the Flatiron building is arguably Toronto's most photographed historic structure. It is located only a few blocks away from other heritage sites such as the St. Lawrence Market and the St. James Cathedral.

The exterior of the building, excluding the western facade, is protected by an Ontario Heritage Trust conservation easement. The property is also designated by the City of Toronto under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 534-75) in 1975.
